Validation of a Cislunar GNSS Signal Simulator Visibility Model Based on LuGRE Data

The success of the Danuri spacecraft in 2022 emphasized the importance of space navigation and driving the need to establish a stable navigation system for Korea's future lunar exploration missions. Because
NASA's Deep Space Network (DSN) is expensive, faces competition from other missions, and has limitations in real-time availability, GNSS-based navigation on spacecraft can be one of the important
alternatives. The successful acquisition and tracking of GNSS signals by the LuGRE mission has verified the feasibility of developing GNSS receivers capable of operating in cislunar and Lunar orbits. For future
South Korean lunar exploration spacecraft, the development of GNSS receivers capable of operating in a space environment is essential, and this requires a reliable, simulation-based verification environment that
reflects the actual space environment. This study aims to validate the satellite visibility model of a lunar orbit GNSS signal simulator using empirical data obtained from LuGRE. The simulator performs visibility
analysis by considering GNSS orbits, antenna radiation patterns, and Earth occultation. By performing a comparison with LuGRE measurement results, the accuracy and validity of the visibility analysis model in
an Earth-Lunar orbit environment are evaluated.
