Implementation of a gait analysis application using a gyro sensor and an acceleration sensor in a smart phone

In this paper, we implement a smart phone application that analyzes the user's walking pattern. First, to extract data, we use acceleration and gyro sensors. With the obtained data, we find some particular walking patterns. For the experiment, user should place a smart phone in the pocket and simulate three types of walking (walk, run, and stop). We extract values of x, y and z axes with the real time data. As the results, we recognize the walk through the threshold value occurring during the user movement. Finally, we show that it is possible to realize the state from the number of the gait within specific time.
