전 세계적으로 global positioning system (GPS)를 비롯한 global navigation satellite system (GNSS)와 quasi-zenith satellite system (QZSS)와 같은 regional navigation satellite system (RNSS) 가 개발되어 운용되고 있으며, 이들은 다양한 분야에서 핵심적인 위치, 항법, 시각 정보(position, navigation, timing; PNT)를 제공하고 있다. 국내에서도 독자적인 위성항법시스템의 구축 필 요성이 대두되면서, 2022년부터 한국형 위성항법시스템 (Korean positioning system, KPS)의 개발이 본격적으로 추진되고 있다. 특히 최근 자율주행 자동차, 드론, urban air mobility (UAM)과 같은 자율 비행체의 확산과 더불어, 센티미터 수준의 정밀 위치 서비스 제공의 필요성이 증가하고 있다. 해외에서는 기존의 중궤도(medium earth orbit; MEO) GNSS 위성을 보완하거나 대체 하기 위한 저궤도(low earth orbit; LEO) 위성을 활용한 정밀 위치 측정 기술에 대한 연구가 활발하게 진행되고 있다. 본 논문에서는 이러한 흐름에 맞추어 5G/6G non terrestrial network (NTN) 환경에서 위성-지상 간 채널 특성을 이용하여 기존 항법 신호의 성능을 분석하고자 한다.

NTN Channel Model-Based Navigation Signal Performance Analysis for LEO-PNT

Global navigation satellite systems (GNSS), including the global positioning system (GPS), and regional satellite systems (RNSS) such as the quasi-zenith satellite system (QZSS), have been developed and deployed to provide positioning servicese across various domain. In Korea, the development of an independent satellite navigation system, Korean positioning system (KPS), was initiated in 2022. As autonomous technologies such as self-driving vehicles and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) continue to advance, the demand for high-precision positioning services has been rapidly increasing. In response to this growing need, many international research initiatives are focusing on utilizing low earth orbit (LEO) satellites to enhance or complement existing medium earth orbit (MEO) GNSS systems. Given these developments, this study investigates the performance of legacy navigation signals over satellite-to-ground channels in 5G/6G based non-terrestrial-networks (NTNs).
