A Payload Interface Unit (PIU) in a satellite system typically interfaces between the satellite bus and payload units, facilitating the exchange of telecommands (TC) from the ground and telemetry (TM) data from the payload
units
via the satellite bus. The PIU for navigation satellite is designed to interface between the satellite bus and navigation payloads. It can exchange TC from the ground and TM from payload units. In addition to these core
functions,
the PIU for a navigation satellite is engineered to provide additional capabilities, such as Fault Detection, Isolation, and Recovery (FDIR) to ensure high availability, as well as temperature control for maintaining the
sensitive
thermal condition units. This paper presents the concept of the Payload Interface Unit for the navigation satellite and its main functionalities.
