A Novel Custom GNSS Simulation using Flex for the Korean Positioning System, KPS

Richard Chan, Ricardo Verdeguer Moreno, Felix Krefft, Alin Stanciu, Andrew Baker

We present a new Global Navigation Satellite system (GNSS) simulator solution provided into the Korean Positioning System (KPS) program. This program represents a highly ambitious undertaking by South Korea, which aims to deploy a regional satellite constellation to provide navigation signals, at a vast cost, for the benefit of all users of Positioning, Navigation and Timing (PNT) services within the region. The novel solution proposed has been designed to address all the challenging requirements demanded by the development of the new KPS signals prior to the release of an official KPS Interface Control Document (ICD). The success of the KPS program is dependent upon the accurate and comprehensive lab testing of all its critical components (including satellites, constellation and interoperability with other systems) performed before actual deployment in space. Spirent’s Flex capability is presented demonstrating all simulation and RF modelling capabilities to develop and experiment with novel positioning custom signals across the L1, L2, L5, L6 and S-band to fulfill the KPS signal requirements now and beyond.
