ESSP: A Successful Pan-European Certification Story
Philippe Pierre
ESSP is the EGNOS Service Provider. Its mission is the provision of the EGNOS Open Service (OS) and Safety of Life (SoL) Service compliant with ICAO SBAS standards and recommended practices throughout the European Civil Aviation Conference (ECAC) Region. In order to provide a SoL service and thus open the service to airspace users, the company had to be certified as an Air Navigation Service Provider (ANSP). This certification has been delivered to ESSP on July 12th 2010 by the French National Supervisory Authority (NSA) and has been renewed by EASA on July 10th, 2014.. It gives evidence of compliance of the ESSP to the criteria necessary to safely provide air navigation services. The first certification has been conducted by the French Direction Genérale de l’Aviation Civile (DGAC), through its DSAC department, in cooperation with the national supervisory authorities of Belgium, Germany, Italy, Portugal, Spain, Switzerland, and United Kingdom. The second one has been ensured by EASA through a continuous oversight program initiated in 2012.
