Design and Performance Comparison of GPS Spoofing Detection Techniques for Various Spoofing Scenarios
Soon Lim, Deok Won Lim, Moon Beom Heo

A GPS spoofing signal causes a distortion on a correlation function of PRN code, and this distortion lead to tracking errors of PRN code. Due to the similarity of a spoofing signal and a real GPS signal, it is difficult to recognize whether a spoofing signal is received or not. By this reason, a receiver needs to find a spoofing signal that causes a tracking error on a target receiver. In this paper, an efficient spoofing detection technique that detects a distortion of correlation function caused by a spoofing signal is proposed and compared with conventional GPS spoofing techniques such as received signal power monitoring and range rate monitoring. For simulating these techniques, MATLAB-based simulation platform is constructed and it is capable of generating a single GPS L1 signal and a GPS L1 spoofing signal. The platform is also able to acquire and track the generated signals to evaluate various techniques. Finally, performances of various techniques is compared in terms of the detection of spoofing signal.
